LD2000 version 2.30 is available with 75 shows and 118000 fr
Hello all,
There is a new update available for Pangolin LD2000 users. LD2000 version 2.30 represents a major update to the LD2000 system. In addition to some major new features and enhancements, this release includes a new Asteroids game, and the release versions of technologies that Pangolin has had in BETA for some time, including the Enhanced Showtime Timeline and Network Access to remote QM2000 boards.
NEW ILP SHOWS AND FRAMES AVAILABLE NOW
As part of the LD2000 2.30 update CD, we are including the latest collection of shows and frames from International Laser Productions. This latest collection is a complete rework of the original collection with lots more shows and frames. Older shows have been revamped and certain material has been removed and reworked.
NEW BEAM SHOW AVAILABLE NOW
Also, as part of LD2000 2.30 update CD, we are including the "Dov'e L'amore" beam show from Patrick Dietzel of Laserlight Showdesign. This beam show received an honorable mention at the 2001 Pangolin Meetings.
CERTAIN COMPONENTS ONLY AVAILABLE AS PART OF THE UPDATE CD
At Pangolin, we strive to give users the best value possible. One way that we do this is by providing free software updates for the life of the product. Updates are completely free when downloaded from the Pangolin web site at www.pangolin.com, but there is a nominal charge for updates delivered on CD to cover the cost of media and shipping expenses.
As our developments have progressed, the LD2000 software has become more complex and we have also continued to provide a number of new frames and shows. These two factors have lead to an increase in update file size and in general, an increase the complexity involved in delivering downloadable updates through the web.
For example, LD2000 version 2.30 includes around 75 laser shows, 118,000+ laser frames and 11 royalty-free songs. Just the software and basic frames and shows total nearly 300 megabytes. In its entirety, LD2000 version 2.30 barely fits on a single CD-ROM disk!
As a result, we are only offering downloadable updates to the main software components including LD2000, Showtime, Autoplay and the new Asteroids game. We are also offering downloadable German versions of LD2000 and Showtime. But we are not offering downloadable versions of the LD2000 Network software or the enormous collection of frames and shows. Nor are we offering downloadable versions of the Spanish, Portuguese or French versions of LD2000. If you want these additional components, you will need to order an update CD.
COME AND GET IT
The software update for LD2000 version 2.30 is available now at the Pangolin web site at www.pangolin.com. If you would rather have the update CD, this can be ordered on-line at www.pangolin.com, or by telephone by calling (407) 299-2088.

Re: LD2000 version 2.30 is available with 75 shows and 11800
No, I am sorry, but it is not possible to download the entire CD. The entire CD is around 630MB right now, and this will increase as we continue to add features and shows. Since our web site is over 750MB, it would require a web server with over 1.5GB of storage. While 1.5GB is not much for a PC, it is HUGE for a web server.
As I said in another post, our web site is 535MB not counting the regular downloads, or videos that we have up there. In its entirety, our web site is over 750MB. As far as I know, this amount of content is similar to large web sites like CNN!!
Consider that we are in an industry where lasers cost thousands of dollars, scanners cost $500 each (not including the driver), high quality mirrors are $100 each, etc. And don't forget that this CD contains the latest edition of International Laser Productions show collection. If purchased separately, this would cost you $500.
I feel that the price of $30-50 is a tremendous bargain for a top-quality printed CD with jewel case, full color printed inserts and the vast amount of content that we provide.
I know of no other laser company that provides this amount and quality of content, OR this low cost.
Heck, one (very small) animation alone from some professional laser company would cost more than our entire CD!!

Well, you're right.... Quality cost's a lot....
But, one last Question... You said, there will be new Shows on this CD.Rom...
What's about the Music-Files... did they be included this time... or will i get a Show without the Musik again?!
Is there any overview about the Shows like

@ William Benner:
Would it be legal from your point of view if your Update CD ist copied by pangolin users or distributed by uploading files from it on an other server as Richi suggests?

Re: LD2000 version 2.30 is available with 75 shows and 11800
Hello McGyver,
By my count the CD contains 11 songs. They are all in 192KBPS MP3 format and automatically load by Showtime when you select the song. These songs are all ones that Pangolin has made special arrangements for. As to the other shows that require music (like Enya for example), you must go out and acquire the Enya music for this show. This is very understandable since Pangolin does not hold the copyright for Enya music. (and besides, it woulnd't fit on the CD anymore anyway...)
However, as I have said in a previous post, a two-CD collection with all music is available for Pangolin from Richard Gonsalves. He has made special arrangements for the distribution of this two-CD set. I don't understand the arrangement myself, but you should inquire about this yourself at pugnews@magi.com
Speaking of copyright, let me take a moment to review with you kind folks exacty what the word copyright means. Copyright means just that -- the right to copy material. Generally, copyright applies to things that took a long time to create in the first place, but can be easily copied after that.
Pangolin is the sole copyright holder of Pangolin software. Likewise, Pangolin has been extended certain rights to copy other content on our CD, such as certain songs, shows, etc.
Theoretically, it is Pangolin who is the only one that has the right to copy our material and our CD -- ie, we are the only ones allowed to duplicate our CD. But there is nothing to technically prevent other people from copying our CD or our content, except that people agree to abide by our license agreement when they run the software. I am sure some unethical people will ignore the copyright and license agreement, but I am also sure that none of you kind folks would do that... Ater all, who would want to break a legal and moral agreement, just to save a few bucks?
Best regards,
William Benner

Re: LD2000 version 2.30 is available with 75 shows and 11800
I have a installation CD Version 1.06.
It dont work with Win XP while the driver for the QM2000 board does not load.
The update to higher 1.04 dont works, while the Software means the Board is not in PC.
I think since 1.32 works the driver with WDM, i have it install at a other system and then replaced the drivers on the XP System. At startup of win, then load it the driver and the QM2000 is present, after this i can make updates.
I think Pangolin must support the Driver as a single download. All other manufacture of Hardware does it.
Best regards
Richard

I did a check and apparently we started putting the WDM driver on the CD in May of 2000. Certainly with that version number and date, you have one of the first systems!! I think most people have purchased a system since that time. Still, your point about putting the WDM driver on our web site is a good one. I will discuss this with our web master and see if we can put it up there.
