Hello everyone

Post by pangolinlaser » Mon 12 Nov, 2001 11:24 am

Hello everyone,
I have found my way onto this Laser Forum with great interest and enthusiasm. I plan on visiting here often and helping to answer questions for Pangolin software and systems.
This is indeed a great forum and I am surprised that many more people haven't found out about it.
I see that many of the posts here are in German. While it is easiest for me to construct replies and new messages in English, I will certainly be happy to do so in German (or even both) if there is interest in doing so.
Please reply, either to this forum, or to me in email and let me know if it is OK to reply in English. If not, I will be happy to translate my replies in German.
Best regards,
William Benner

Hello Bill,
welcome to the Pangolin-Forum of Laserfreak.net! Basically this forum is a split-off of the general LaserBoard for generic subjects. After a seperate board had been opened for laser safety issues, also a board for Pangolin users opend with great success as you can see. Marc Lagies (one of the founders of Laserfreak.net) had the great idea of making a forum just for discussing Lasershow Designer and associated topics.
As a moderator of this forum I think I am authorized to announce that all languages are welcome. (Although language might possibly influence the number of replys you get). You can of course switch to German if you like. It is great that you finally found your way here. (I think I posted the URL some months ago in you laser chat board). Please feel free to make announcements regarding updates and infos about Lasershow Designer here, as a lot of users will read them with great interest.
Thanks for stopping by and have fun!
Patrick Dietzel

Hello William
it's verry nice to meet Pangolin here in this Board. I have one question about SMPTE to you.
I use QM2000 boards together with the old MQX32 for SMPTE syncronisation of multiple computers. Most time, i use a DV-Cam video machine as SMPTE master and distribute the timecode to all computers and the MQX32 reads the timecode.
But the MQX32 has also a (unused ??) timecode output connector. For some smaller jobs, when i use only 2 computers or so, it would be from interesting, that the MQX32 can also output the internal timecode from showtime software during playing a show. Is there any possibility to do this?
I have the QM2000 (pro and intro boards) with software release 2.11 in english, running on win98se.
thank you for any help
best regards
Andi
[ 12 November 2001: Message edited by: Andi ]

Hello Patrick,
Thanks for the welcome!! Regarding laser safety, what sort of safety topics were discussed? (I suppose I can see for myself...)
Anyway, there will be a new Pangolin update coming soon with a new Timeline, among other things. Stay tuned...
Best regards,
William Benner

Hi Andi,
Good question. Yes, it is true that the MQX32 has a SMPTE output connector. I have spoken with the manufactuerers of this board a long time ago, and also spoke directly with the person who wrote the driver for this board. They tell me that it is possible to get it to do SMPTE out from my program, but it is difficult. Most recently, it is impossible for me to contact them and learn more because the MQX32 is no longer being made any more.
Occassionally we do get contacted for SMPTE output and I have looked into this a bit more. We can probably support SMPTE output with the Aquila.
For those of you who don't know, the Aquila is an external time code box that hooks up to the serial port on the computer. The Aquila supports several time code formats including SMPTE, AVL, BCC and BCD. It is a very good box with isolated audio in and out, and it is awesome at recovering bad time code. However, all of this good stuff comes at a price -- around $650.
If you would be interested in using the Aquila for time code output, I could invest the programming time necessary to support this. Please contact me directly at lasers@pangolin.com if you remain interested.
Best regards,
William Benner
