ALC60 and PSA12
I have a problem with my ALC60 system. When I turn up the "power", the beam intensity is not stable. It oscillates. Up to 10A is it no problem, but 10-12A it is oscillating VERY much.
I put my oscilloscope probe on the current measurement connectors (red and black 4mm connectors) on the ALC 60 ...

Re: Switched-mode power-supply
To adjust the tube current, you adjust the PWM to the ferrite core. Question: Between which voltages (approx.) do you control the tube current?
If the PWM goes too low, I assume the ionazion disappear.
Best regards,
Magnus

Re: Switched-mode power-supply
BTW, how critical is the filament voltage? I have read that the voltage should be 3.2V. On another site I read 5V.
Magnus

Re: Switched-mode power-supply
Hi,
Well, no I don't use a variac. I had the schematics of a linear PSU of the ALC60 from www.laserfaq.com in front of me, when I wrote the reply. But the PSA12 use a 15kg transformer. That is just like a variac, but with no wiper. So, -it still got the weight! :-(
I mean that I will use the ...

Re: Switched-mode power-supply
Hello Ralf,
What are the problem with your SMPSU?
I have some questions about it:
1. Are the "filament transformer" outside the PCB? It isn't in the ETD49 core?
2. Do you use the ETD59 in "push-pull" (primary has three terminals and at least two transistors) mode or "feed-forward" (primary ...

Re: Switched-mode power-supply
Hi,
Sorry about the mistake in the calculation. I saw the mistake just when I pressed "post reply", but I was unable to delete/edit the reply.
I don't have a working SMPSU for my argon laser yet. Sorry if I gave you that impression. I use MediaLas PSA12 now. That is a 20kg piece, and I don't ...

ALC60 too noisy fan
Hi laserists,
I dislike the high fan noise of the ALC60. It is the original with "air-tunnel". When I use it to try out new animations, I run at minimum power. The fan speed is the same whatever I set the optical power to. The air temperature is 65 degrees. When I turn up the optical power it is ...

Re: AOM-Anschlußproblem
To make special voltages like the -5.2 volt there are no regulators made for this, but if you don´t need too much power, use an op-amp!
1. Connect +/-15V to supply the op-amp.
2. Connect the negative input (-) to the output.
3. Connect a voltage divider that makes -5.2V (f.x 5k6 and 10k ...

Re: PARALLEL und so
If you don´t add +1026 and +1024 to the base address you will still use SPI mode, -even if the BIOS is in ECP mode. By adding +1026/+1024 it tells the parallel
I/O chip to use ECP mode.
Note that you must set BOTH the BIOS and the software code (the one you replied with) to ECP mode to get it ...

Re: PARALLEL und so
It is very easy!
1. Set the BIOS to ECP mode, DMA disable.
2. out 632+1026,64+32 (632 is for LPT2 $278)
3. out 632+1024,byte
Now, when you enter the third row the byte will be at the
parallel port and the strobe will automatically go low. When this byte is read by f.x. a ...

I am successfully using ECP to transfer 16bit @ 56k to my scanner pair.
-Has anyone got the DMA to work in ECP mode?
