Re: [project]Laser Harp
hello laserharp - fans
i am also working on such a project. i am using an arduino and a DAC to generate the voltage for a x - galvo
to deflect the laserbeam. i have only a 20mW laser - but basically the scanner shows me a fan with 9 separate
beams on an angle of 40 degrees ( i see the green dots on the ceiling )
ok - 20 mW is not enough to get a reflection which can be detectet by the fotodiode (BPW34).
So what is your recommended minimum laser power to realize a good detection ?
i will upload my circuit diagramm and also some pics from the scope in next days ...
have fun
thomas
@genesis: could you also send aftertouch midi-signals by moving up and down your hand ?
the idea is to detect the distance of the hand to the buttom via a sensor. so you can change
the pitch of the midi-tone ...

Re: [project]Laser Harp
hello
i'm working too on a V2 laser harp
you have some informations here from the original post:
Hello All
after some work on others projects i'm working on V2 laser Harp
the first one was here:
http://www.laserfreak.net/forum/viewtop ... 07&t=37151
like the V1 the project is open and schematics + code are open
But please, thank you not to use anything like diagrams and/or codes without my consent for commercial use (even parts of it) ..... like someone did 2 years ago !!!
But if you're dumb enough to spend money while you can get it for free ... Well so go on. Anyway, I'm here if you want any information or help, just let me know.
Also, my own website is under construction and will come out nextly =o)
this version use
- open and closed frame system
- ATmega 644PA controller or arduino nano board
)
- SPI DAC converter
- ILDA compatible output with color channel + intensity control
- two sensor analog input (one trig and one pitch)
- Midi In and Midi out with live programming
- LCD in front panel to control the harp
- remote control with two buttons
- separate sensor box with connector to build and tests different sensors
- you can use free cross compiler for AVR like GCCAVR to make some code
you just need to have a laser with scanners and some electronic knowledge to make the PCB and build the PCB
at this point i've made the diagrams and i'm working on the PCB route.
all the plans will be available by mail to know wich use the system at the end of the development.
here you can find some V1 tests
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56Os82IEktw
pictures of the V1 prototype used on the video:

for the closed frame mode i think to use an acrylic tube used in "light pipe" mode with a single ptotodiode at the end. the beams are received along the tube and collected by the photodiode
in this mode the harp is surely less sensitive to ambiant light.
some news about the boards:
just 3D models from Eagle3D and PovRay
the sensor one with OPT101 photodiode

and the mainboard in 3d:

for the minimum laser power i think 200-300mw is a good value except if you are using a closed frame system.

hi !
ok - 200...300mW is a lot of fun - and it is also not cheap and too dangerous for me. so i think that i will use a closed frame system.
here are my circuit for the arduino to create the laserbeams with a x-scanner - i am using 8 pins in parallel mode to send values
to the dac. you have to use a special code for the arduino to send the information simultaneous to the dac.
ideas to improve the circuit are welcome !

hello
sorry for the delay but i'm very busy
for the closed loop i've teh idea to use an acrylic light guide with one photodiode at the end.
for your schematic i think the best way is to use SPI DAC with your arduino.
if your project is not urgent you can wait for schematics because i've allready added an arduino nano on my laser harp schematic.
the website is on the way @ http://www.harpelaser.com
franck.

Hallo
Does anyone know which Lasersystem Jean Michel Jarre uses on his actual Tour.
I saw 7 Projector's + the Harp. Two of them where singlecolor Yellow and 5 RGB.
I saw the Concert in Liege last sunday.

i don't know but here in paris he used 9 "white light" dpss laser. each with 2 watts of output power i think.
Re: [project]Laser Harp
hi all
some news of the project!
i've worked all the week end on the harp
(and more important thing > the coffee )
some pictures:
me with the solder paste:

soldering a component:
first step (passive components):
second step (active components)
last step (connectors and transformer):

and the crucial moment! the first test!

no smoke! and all things seems to be good
after some mechanical adjustments
the front panel PCB:
the mainboard:
and few C lines after:

there is some mistakes on the pcb like switch clearance, mechanical assembly issue and some signal routing error but this is not so bad for a V1 prototype
now this prototype is ready for my friend who work on the code
i keep you in touch

Re: [project]Laser Harp
thank you for this support.
the project is actually in standby because i've got a heart attack and i'm currently at the hospital after an aortic valve replacement (bentall) since one month today.
but don't worry i'm ok now and i'm waiting to continue the developpment.
greetings

Re: [project]Laser Harp
hello guys!
here is a new video!
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k1MLvc35LQAgry3JUrx
we have the first laser harp with hand height detection!
the new improvements are:
- sensor can work with neon light without problems
- the height detection
- 20 playlists of 20 songs each with up to 20 beams and up to 5 simultaneous notes for each beam
you can also see how it's easy to program the harp @4minutes 15s (i cut the beam, i play the note on the synth and it's done! the instrument + note + velocity are stored )
25 prototypes are in manufacturing process \o/
i'm waiting for the final price but the bare boards will be available too
