Using switching power supply like LM2575 or LM2678 - it is a good idea, but our old USB boxes had a not big size, and additional power supply chip can make a hard temperature mode for controller as whole.

PCI card have control from music, USB - no.
PCI card have Z DAC, USB - no.

We choice good case, but don't have plase in this case for other type connector

Therefore we use RJ-45 with shield (for "common" line).
