Beam switch for small laser table

Hi ,I'm building a small laser table and i have a problem with a beam switch 
I want bo build him on stepper motor 1,8 degrees per step.

I want bo build this driver ,but i want to change "clock"...NE 555 maybe is too slow for 1,8 degrees motor
Is anybody who can show me photos of beam switches ?
