Hi,

Does anyone have the following data for a Coherent Purelight Star:

(a) Tube voltage range and lowest value before refill
(b) Maximum tube current

Is the system with ampoules as the I-70? Any idea what average power is regained by an ampoule?

Hi Alex,

the maximum tube current is 40A (mixed gas). The tube voltage has to be between 210 and 220V (mixed gas). The Purelight Star has 4 ampoules under the tube, but you can´t say one ampoule offers XmW more output power. When you breake an ampoule the tube voltage climbs up a bit (up to 4V with one ampoule). But then the output power falls down. You have higher output @ lower tube voltage! But after breaking an ampoule you will get much more red, because the ampoules are mainly filled with krypton.

Hey thanks Tobias, very good info.

I am looking at a Purelight Star giving 3.7W at 1400 hours, but tube voltage is 200V. This seems to be very low then.

There are 3 ampoules, but from what I understand, these will not increase the 3.7W appreciably. Is that right?

P.S. What about your listed coherent? What condition is it in?

200V is very low. The lowest possible tube voltage is 195V. Under 195V the power supply will shut down. You can break one or two ampoules and you´ll receive much more red in the output. But after that the laser won´t make 3.7W. He will fall to about 3W, I think.

My Purelight is a Purelight 1 (older model than Purelight Star) in excellent condition. This model has total 4 ampoules and a bigger ballast tank. Two of these 4 ampoules are broken and 2 are not used, yet. The tube voltage is 208V @ 40A with 3.1W output.

The same range of tube voltage is applicable to the Purelight I and the Purelight Star?

Does the Purelight I have CE marking or European conformity certification? Here in Malta it's very difficult to import without these.

I don´t know the tube voltages for all models, but the tube is nearly the same, so the tube voltage has to be the same, too.

The purelight 1 doesn´t have any certifications, because it was built in 1993. In 1993 the CE certification was not very popular.

I don´t know if there was a model called purelight II. I know that there are different types of purelight star. The actual model is called purelight star c, but I don´t know if there were models with "a" or "b". The head of the purelight I system is a bit bigger than the purelight star housing.
