I was just curious if it would work.
Yesterday I got a 808nm 200mW LD from the company I was in contact with. I connected the LD to 3 1.5 volt batteries (4.5 volt) with 170mA. I saw the IR ligh come out so I understood it was working. I took one of my crystals (the composit) and put it in front of it. There was no 532nm detected. Then I tried with my other crystals, I focused the IR light onto the Nd:YVO4 and I had the KTP very close and an OC. I basically used the DPSS pointer but I exchanged the LD for the new one I got. There was still no 532nm detected. I know that my batteries were old, could that be the problem? Perhaps the company gave me a different IR laser diode than 808nm?? I think I have to do new tests with new batteries, then I will know for sure.. I am open for all commnets..

I got my DPSS working yesterday night!! It was the batteries, they were old and thats why it would not work the night before. I took my composite crystal http://focus27.tripod.com/dpsslaser/cry ... stal1.html
and just placed it next to the diode. After some turning of the crystal I got some green light!! I am waiting for the powersupply from www.lasever.com, then I will do some serious work with a stronger laserdiode <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

THE POWERSUPPLY IS ON ITS WAY!! I should recieve the PS today as I tracked it on TNT´s page. I have a party coming up the 28/6, so my DPSS will look great with some smoke from the smoke mashine, a 15mW HeNe, a 150mW Argon and Guidos system which I tried out yesterday. My room looked like it came from The Twilight Zone <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Will take some pictures of the party.

The party went great! The people really like the show, and pictures were all out of focus becouse of the smoke from the smokemachine. But I will work on that and send some pictures anyways.. A question, when I run my homemade DPSS through a composit crystal (have not tried yet ro tun it yet the normal way with to separate crystals) I get a strange shpe dot on the ceeling. All I do is run the 808nm LD through collimating optics straight on the composit crystal. I dont have anything after that. No optics! I get a dot on the ceeling that looks really strange, does anybody know why???

My very first working DPSSL!! It looks like some creation by Frankenstein but it works and I am working on improving the construction! I will use it for a show tomorrow, does anybody know what max current I can use for a 200mW 808nm LD?? Check these pictures out!

Here you can compare the specifications from some LD´s. But it will be better to ask the company from whre you got the LD!
Maybe your LD produce 200mW with 400mA, maybe with 300mA?!?

You are from Stockholm? Do you know of any good swedish company that works with lasers? I've looked for some but only find crappy laser pointers and such.

---Guido: Hi there <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />, Thanx for the info. I checked the specifications for a 250mW 808nm. They did not have a 200mW. The numbers are very correct. The threshold it say is about 160mA to 200mA. If you look at my pictures I got my first lease at 171mA. And actually even sooner but you could not detect it with the camera very well. A friend of mine had a party this weekend and I brought my Popelscan with me and my DPSS,HeNe and argon lasers. WHAT A SHOW!!!! I think a few people took some pictures but most of the pictures were taken with a flash! So you could not see anything. I think a friend of mine knew to shut the flash of so there coud be some pictures I could show you all. We were all partying to 05:00 in the morning. Next project is to build a nice casing for the laser, improving the quality of the beam spot, and increasing power. Unfotrunately my adventure with the DPSS lasers ends here today, at leaset until January 2004. I will explain the reason better in a new post very soon.

Hi everyone,

As I wrote in my last post about ending my journey into the DPSS world I want to explain the reason. I have a business on the side of my original work that will eventually give me time an financial freedom to do the things I love doing, LASERS!! However it will take me some time to reach to that point and a lot of work. I figure I have to give up a litle now, to have alot more later. So I have put all my lasers and scanners and parts on the shelf, and I wont touch them untill I reach my goal. This is my last post until then. Hatschi, thanks for all the help you gave me, and all the posts you have answered. I hope you are still here when I get back. I have had a great time here! se you all in a near future.
